Dr. Tong is an Optometrist who specializes in myopia control in children, specialty contact lens fitting, and refractive surgery co-management. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 2011, and is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Formerly a researcher also at the University of Waterloo, she earned her MSc in Vision Science for her research in ocular blood flow and its relevance in systemic diseases such as diabetes. Before that, she graduated from the University of Guelph with a BSc in Bio-Medical Science in 2005 where she was a three-time recipient of the Undergraduate Student Research Award from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). In addition to seeing patients and practicing optometry, Dr. Tong has been a lab and clinical instructor at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science where she trained optometry students and interns. She actively serves as an examiner, content writer, and subject expert for the Internationally Graduated Optometrist Evaluating Exam (IGOEE) which assesses the performance of foreign-trained Optometrists wishing to practice in Canada. A long-time resident of Burlington where she lives with her husband and son, she is proud to be serving her home community. She enjoys food and travel, staying active, and curling up with a good book.
